It's not very difficult to get a better score at IELTS speaking test if you prepare well, follow some basics, and be confident. Here’s five dos and 5 don’ts for your IELTS speaking test. These 10 tips for IELTS speaking test will help you to improve your score.
Dos
- Give your opinion & examples
Give your point of view give example if possible. Try to include all relevant information to elaborate the answer. At part 1 try to speak at least 20 seconds.
- Ask for the clarification
Don’t hesitate to ask for clarification if you do not understand the question. You are not going to lose any marks for that if you do it once or twice.
- Maintain the coherence:
Maintain the sequence when you are talking use some connecting words if possible to maintain the coherence. Try not to include any unnecessary topic when you are answering.
- Practice and record
Use a recording device when you practicing. Listen the recording later and you can point out the mistakes and weak areas you need to improve.
- Find a partner
Find a partner for practicing regularly. That’s how you both will be benefited. Practicing regularly is really important for a significant improvement.
Don’t
- Do not give short answer. Like ‘yes’ or ‘no’ try to elaborate it with relevant information try to speak at least 1520 seconds for every questions.
- Do not memories the answer
It’s a big NO, please do not memorize the answers otherwise you will end up giving a robotic answer all no answer at all if topic is uncommon to you.
- Don't panic if you make a mistake
Try not to panic if you make a mistake. Its ok, even native speakers make mistake when they are talking. Just correct the mistake smoothly and carry on your conversation. Please do not over think about it.
- Don’t be late:
Try to be at the Exam center 30 minutes before that will help you to adapt with the environments.
5 Don’t get too nervous
Well it’s quite normal to get nervous as it is not your native language but please don’t get too nervous.
